The term nursery is derived from the English word nurse or nursing which means to provide care, upbringing and protection to plants. Hence, nursery is the place where various activities of raising a healthy plant is carried out like sowing of seeds, then preparing and caring them to make available for planting. Generally, fruits, flowers, vegetables, medicinal and forestry plants are prepared in the nursery. The nursery ensures better germination and establishment and also ensures saving of time, area and labour and makes easy maintenance. The establishment of nursery requires knowledge of propagation methods and resources such as land, mother plants and plant propagation structures, growing media, containers, and mixture for containers, propagation equipments.

नर्सरी

नर्सरी शब्द अंग्रेजी के नर्स या नर्सिंग शब्द से बना है जिसका अर्थ है पौधों की देखभाल, पालन-पोषण और सुरक्षा प्रदान करना। अतः नर्सरी वह स्थान है जहाँ एक स्वस्थ पौधे को उगाने की विभिन्न गतिविधियाँ की जाती हैं जैसे बीज बोना, फिर उन्हें तैयार करना और रोपण के लिए उपलब्ध कराने के लिए उनकी देखभाल करना। आमतौर पर नर्सरी में फल, फूल, सब्जियां, औषधीय और वानिकी प्रजातियों के पौधे तैयार किए जाते हैं। नर्सरी बेहतर अंकुरण और स्थापना सुनिश्चित करती है और समय, क्षेत्र और श्रम की बचत भी सुनिश्चित करती है और रखरखाव आसान करती है। नर्सरी की स्थापना के लिए प्रसार विधियों और संसाधनों जैसे कि भूमि, मातृ पौधों और पौधों के प्रसार संरचनाओं, बढ़ते मीडिया, कंटेनरों और मिश्रण के लिए कंटेनरों, प्रसार उपकरणों के ज्ञान की आवश्यकता होती है।
